75 Narrowly Avoid Swim in Chao Phraya After Party Boat Sinks in Bangkok

Chao Phraya River Boat Cruise Sinks Bangkok Thailand

Seventy-five people narrowly avoided a swim in Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River when their party boat began to sink Sunday night.

Khlong San police were notified of the accident about 8 p.m., arriving at a Thonburi jetty to find the wrecked and sinking boat.

The High Season Resort Co. boat had picked up 75 passengers at a riverfront hotel pier on Rama 3 Road for a scenic cruise to the King Prajadhipok Bridge and back. During the voyage, the craft began to list to starboard. The captain brought the vessel to a dock at a private house to safety disembark the passengers.

An inspection found a hole in the starboard side of the vessel. Police invited the captain to come to the station to explain his pre-voyage inspection procedures.
