The Mass Rapid Transit Authority is investigating its contractor after a concrete beam collapsed, injuring five workers, at a Pink Line construction site in Nonthaburi Province early today.
The support beam fell from a connecting pillar in front of a Makro Cash & Carry store on Chaeng Watthana Road in Pak Kret District at about 2 a.m.
Hurt in the accident were engineer Thanapong Kongsri, 24, worker Sa-ngob Boonsri, 34, Narongsak Borirak, 29, and two Burmese laborers named Mai, 34, and Kun, 19. One remains hospitalized.
MRTA Gov. Pakapong Sirikantaramas said the beam collapsed after heavy rain and he ordered the contractor to prevent such incidents from recurring.
