The Cabinet on Tuesday expanded its economic-relief program for businesses and workers in the Social Security program damaged by coronavirus restrictions to newly designated “deep red” Covid-19 control areas.

The 11-billion-baht budget approved applies to construction, entertainment, recreational activities, hotel, restaurant, retail, wholesale, vehicle maintenance, transport, warehousing, management and scientific and technical industry businesses.

Employees at qualifying companies can receive 2,500 baht, plus 50 percent of their normal salaries up to 10,000 baht. The relief is only for one month, however.

Employers will be given 3,000 baht per worker up to 200 employees. Freelancers working in those sectors can each receive 5,000 baht for one month.

The new budget follows a previously approved 2.5 billion in aid.
