Tourism showed signs of life on Phuket this weekend with Thails flocking to the resort island over the long King’s Birthday weekend, according to the president of the Thai Hotels Association Southern Region.
Kongsak Khupongsakorn said people responded well to the government’s tourism stimulus measures but he would like the tourism officials to quickly approve hotels’ participation into its promotional campaign.
Many hotels were still waiting for approval even though they had filed their applications on July 1. They missed opportunities during the long July 25 to 28 weekend, he said.
Kongsak also said that, despite high room rates, Phuket remained popular with tourists because there are all levels of room rates to serve everyone.
Occupancy rates are good this weekend. Some hotels were fully booked, he said.
“Promotions of hotels are effective. Thai people still like to visit Phuket. At least 300 hotels have reopened here. More will follow suit,” Kongsak said.
