Tourists Russians Beach Phi Phi KRabi Thailand

Hotel reservations increase ahead of the government’s further relaxation of Covid-19 control measures on July 1 with Phuket and Krabi provinces remaining popular destinations, according to the Thai Hotels Association.

Giving the hotel booking overview, Prachum Tantiprasertsuk, marketing head of the association, said the tourists who made the reservations were mostly from nearby countries including Singapore, Malaysia and India while visitors from a farther country like Australia started to reserve accommodations.

Most popular destinations in July were in the South including Phuket and Krabi provinces. More than 50% of hotel rooms in Phuket were reserved. There were also bookings in Pattaya and Hua Hin, Prachum said.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s targeted hotel occupancy rate of 55% could be realized this year due to relaxed COVID-19 controls and international travel situations unless there was a new wave of Covid-19, she said.

She suggested the government solve the problem of limited inbound flights especially in the high season. The government should also prepare labor in the tourism sector which lost more than 50% of its workers over the past two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, she said.
