Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening of four new stations on the BTS Green Line between Ha Yaek Lat Phrao to Wat Phra Sri Mahathat stations.
The stations — Royal Forest Department, Bang Bua, 11th Infantry Regiment and Wat Phra Sri Mahathat – are part of the extended northbound service.
After the opening ceremony, trains were opened to the public to take a ride. Fares will be free on the extension until the end of the year.
Rates for next year have not been set yet, but the ceiling fare for the whole route is fixed at 65 baht.
The Green Line extension will continue to Kukot Station in Pathum Thani Province, with test runs likely to start in the fall.
When the entire Green Line, which includees the Sukhumvit Line, is complete it will run from Kheha Samutprakan Station to Kukot Station and carry 1.5 million passengers a day.
