The new terminal extension at Suvarnabhumi International Airport is now 90 percent complete and will be ready for operation in 2022, nsport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said.
Satellite Terminal 1, or SAT-1, will increase the capacity of Bangkok’s main airport by 15 million passengers a year and serve 60 passengers a year.
According to the Airports of Thailand Plc., work on Suvarnabhumi’s third runway is underway and is expected to be completed in 2023. Construction began last month.
The third runway, together with the second-phase expansion of Suvarnabhumi ,will increase its capacity to serve 90 million passengers a year.
Saksayam instructed AoT and Suvarnabhumi Airport executives to repair runways and taxiways during the Covid-19 situation when the airport is not busy.
The repairs, covering 700,000 square meters, will use the budget of more than 4 billion baht and will be finished in 2022.
