4-Hour Coronavirus Testing Now Available on Koh Samui

While Koh Samui has seen only seven cases of Covid-19 and none in more than a month, coronavirus tests that yield results in just four hours are now available.

Koh Samui Hospital announced Thursday that the 4.8-million-baht rapid-testing lab was funded with the help of Koh Samui Subdistrict and began service on June 22.

Surat Thai Gov. Wichawut Jinto hailed the coming of rapid tests, even without any active Covid-19 cases, saying it will create confidence among tourists, making htem feel safer.

Previously, Koh Samui Hospital offered the standard RT-PCR tests – which required an overnight stay – but results returned the next day for about 4,500 baht. Wichawut said, however, that the test samples had to be sent to a lab on the mainland for testing and then returned.

No price was disclosed for the new rapid test.
