The Cabinet on Wednesday approved an additional 883 million baht to fund state coronavirus-quarantine facilities for repatriating Thais.
Government spokeswoman Traisulee Traisaranakul said the third central budget approved for the Ministry of Defense will cover the cost of preparing private facilities for state quarantine.
From March 7 to June 30, two government centers and more than 30 private hotels were used for the quarantine of returnees. To date, the Defense Ministry has received 192 million baht for the quarantine operations.
In July and August, 22,470 Thais sought to return to Thailand, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Defense Ministry has requested additional budget to support 19,577 people who have not yet been funded.
The prime minister approved a central budget for Defense to use in preparing quarantine facilities to accommodate 41,514 people.
The expenses include compensation for personnel, accommodation rental and food expenses for personnel, accommodation rental and food expense for people under quarantine, medical supply expenses and other expenses.
