Despite 6 Jabs, ‘Obese’ Anutin Gets Covid-19

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from Europe despite already being vaccinated six times.

Anutin, representatives of the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and the governor of Phuket Province attended the 170th General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris from June 19-21. They presented Thailand’s readiness to host the Specialized Expo in Phuket in 2028.

The delegation then went to Geneva to attend the 50th meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board from June 21-24.

The delegation returned to Thailand on June 26. Anutin had muscle aches and a sore throat and his antigen test returned positive. The symptoms remain mild.

Dr. Kiattiphum Wongrajit, permanent secretary for public health, said Anuthin might have contracted the disease during the overseas trip because he met, talked and shook hands with many people who attended the meetings.

His infection comes despite recently getting his sixth Covid-19 jab and his second consecutive Pfizer shot. He initially was vaccinated with two doses of Sinovac, followed by two doses of AstraZeneca.

Anutin was prescribed hard-to-get Covid-19 drug molnupiravir but Medical Services Department chief Somsak Akksilp denied he was given preferential treatment.

The minister got the drug because he’s obese, Somsak said.

Molnupiravir is administered to those who do not require supplementary oxygen but are at an increased risk of developing severe Covid-19 … despite six jabs.
