Thai researchers believe they can crank out a vaccine to prevent the coronavirus next year.
Researchers said they’ve completed a trial of a potential Covid-19 vaccine on rats and will next move to monkeys. The team coordinated with North American manufacturers to produce the first batch of the vaccine injected into the animals.
The vaccine is an mRNA-type formula designed to help the body create immunity against the new coronavirus. It could be available as early as next year, provided that all tests are successful. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the development to progress urgently.
Chulalongkorn University’s Vaccine Research Center joined forces with the National Vaccine Institute and Department of Medical Sciences in this vaccine project.
The vaccine will be tested on monkeys next week. Thai officiasl think the country could be among the first to produce a successful vaccine.
