Thailand Reports 20,258 New Covid-19 Cases as Lockdown Extended

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration on Tuesday reported 20,258 new coronavirus cases and 239 new fatalities a day after extending the semi-lockdown in 29 provinces.

Total cases rose to 948,572 and the death toll went up to 8,000.

Over the past 24 hours, 20,791 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals while 210,032 others remained at hospitals to receive treatment.

On Monday, the CCSA decided to extend lockdown measures further in Bangkok and 28 other “dark red” provinces to Aug. 31.

However, the Covid-19 taskforce, chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, eased some restrictions to allow banks and financial institutions on the premises of shopping malls and department stores to reopen under strict Covid-19 prevention measures.
