Thailand Reports 3 New Cases as Malay Man’s Thai Girlfriend Tests Negative for Covid-19

Coronavirus Covid-19 Update Thailand Herald

Thailand on Tuesday reported three new coronavirus cases, two of whom returned from Russia, and another from India.

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported that the new cases raised the country’s total to 3,381.

The three new cases were detected during their stays at alternative state quarantine and state quarantine facilities.

According to the CCSA, four patients were released from hospitals, making a total of 3,198 patients who have recovered while the death toll was at 58.

The Public Health Ministry, meanwhile, continued its investigation of a Malaysian visitor to Bangkok who tested positive for Covid-19 after he returned to his homeland.

The 46-year-old man was staying at a condominium in Bangkok before returning to Malaysia on Aug. 5, according to Dr. Thanarak Plipat, deputy director-general of the Disease Control Department.

The fact that the man had been in the quarantine facility in Malaysia for 10 days until he was tested positive indicated that he likely caught the virus after leaving Thailand, he said.

However, the Department and local health officials had conducted contact tracing to identify those who came to contact with the man during his stay in Thailand.

That included the man’s Thai girlfriend, who returned to her native Chiang Mai after her lover returned home. She and her family were placed in quarantine at Nakornping Hospital 13 days ago after the Disease Control Department alerted authorities in the northern province.

The woman and her family all have tested negative for the virus and, after one more negative test, can leave quarantine.
