Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Sunday night signed off on a Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration proposal to increase disease-control measures for 28 provinces already declared maximum virus-control zones as new cases soared.
The measures take effect today and include the closure of any buildings that pose risks of disease transmission and the closure of all educational buildings in the 28 red zone provinces.
Any activities that are likely to transmit diseases are banned except for those permitted by officials.
Provincial governors are authorized to close any places in their provinces where the disease can be spread and to close or reopen any places that are not included in regulations.
Restaurants are required to limit the numbers of customers or sell only takeouts orders and suspend the sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Interprovincial trips are not prohibited but people are asked to suspend them unless they are necessary.
