Thailand Bans Smoking Pot on University Campuses

Marijuana Cannabis Leaves Thailand

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation announced a ban on the sale of food and beverages containing cannabis and its recreational use on university campuses and agencies under its jurisdiction.

With immediate effect, Higher Education Minister Anek Laothamatas signed an announcement regulating the use of cannabis on those premises.

Universities and agencies under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Health are prohibited from using cannabis for recreational purposes, while university administrators and staff have been instructed to prohibit the sale of cannabis-infused food and beverages on campus.

Each facility has also been instructed to organize activities or produce media to educate students, staff, and residents of nearby communities about the proper use of cannabis, with the goal of addressing the potentially harmful effects on of cannabis extracts containing amounts of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the herb’s psychoactive ingredient, in excess of the legal limit.
