Bangkok’s Pollution Control Department said thick fine dust will blanket the capital region today through Monday due to a mass of stagnant air.
Director-General Attapol Charoenchansa said the levels of particulate matter 2.5 microns or smaller (PM2.5) were safe nationwide at 7 a.m. Jan. 4, but that was going to change.
PM2.5 levels ranged from 21-39 micrograms per cubic meter of air in 24 hours in greater Bangkok. The safe threshold in the country was set at 50 mcg.
Attapol said PM2.5 would build from Jan. 5-10 due to air stagnation and the pollution would be relieved on Jan. 11.
He advised people to monitor air quality at Air4Thai.com and bangkokairquality.com as well as via apps: Air4Thai and AirBKK.
