The Culture Ministry on Tuesday selected two movie scripts about the coronavirus pandemic it plans to turn into internationally distributed films.
Wanchalerm Wattanaworakitkul and Woralak Klasukon beat out more than 70 other scriptwriters to win 200,000 baht each in a ministry-sponsored contest to find the best original screenplay about Thailand’s Covid-19 crisis and the world pandemic.
The ministry will hire a professional production company to make the two films and show them in Thailand and abroad.
Culture Minister Itthiphol Kunplome said the project was aimed at boosting the Thai film industry’s presence in China, South Korea and India, all countries the ministry sees as ripe market for Thai television shows and big-screen productions.
The government is currently negotiating with the Film Federation to provide even more support in the future, to raise the level of the Thai film industry and put it the front of Asian production.
