Thailand’s tourism minister apparently has a thing for Lisa.

Pipat Ratchakitprakarn confirmed Monday he is insisting on inviting Blackpink singer Lalisa “Lisa” Manobal to New Year countdown events to stimulate the Thai economy. For those who wouldn’t know K-Pop rap from Korean dumpling wraps, Pipat also wants money to bring tenor Andrea Bocelli to town.

Pipat said he plans to ask his boss, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, for 100 milllion baht to pay for appearances by the two artists when the Cabinet meets in Krabi Province Nov. 15-16.

He expected agents for both artists to send him their contract details on Oct 30.

Asked if the singers would also take part in any other tourism promotion activities, Pipat said that would depend on their contracts. He insisted the 100-million-baht invitations were worthwhile, despite the cost.

Pipat added he would invite the private sector to help sponsor the events.

Like much of Thailand, Pipat has been agog at Lisa since the release of her record-shattering single and video, “Lalisa”, which featured Thai costumes and themes. Thais even rushed to a Buriam market to eat pork balls after they heard the K-Pop star liked them.
