Powdered ecstasy is readily available for sale on Thai social media, mixed in packets of instant coffee and creamer.
Dr. Manus Potaporn, deputy director-general of the Department of Medical Services, said party drugs are being aimed at teenagers and young adults and packaged to avoid suspicion during shipping.
Many well-known Facebook pages recently warned of the widening availability of ecstasy mixed with coffee and parents were urged to protect their children.
There were reports that the illicit mixture was sold at 1,000-2,000 baht per packet and was as dangerous as the “K-powdered milk” drug cocktail that killed more than a half-dozen people in Bangkok earlier this year.
Ecstasy take effects in 30-45 minutes after a person injests it and the effects will last up to eight hours. Abusers can suffer severe hallucinations and cannot control their emotions, Manus warned.
