The world’s No. 1-ranked badminton player has pulled out of three tournaments in Thailand after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Badminton World Federation and Badminton Association of Thailand confirmed Monday Kento Momota of Japan and his entire team will not travel to Thailand.

Momota had met teammates a day before his test a practice stadium in Tokyo on Jan. 2. His test result prompted the Nippon Badminton Association to withdraw its whole team from the three tournaments that were set to begin in 10 days in Thailand.

Badminton players from other countries were arriving in Thailand. All players are required to show a certificate confirming they are free of Covid-19.

They were scheduled to arrive in the country by Jan. 4 and enter an organizational quarantine process before competition.
