Rajamangala National Stadium will see major renovations before English Premier League clubs Manchester United and Liverpool face off in Bangkok for a July preseason match.

Speaking at the April 1 official kickoff for “The Match: Bangkok Century Cup 2022”, Vinij Lertratanachai, CEO of event organizer Fresh Air Festival, said the Bangkok stadium will be upgraded to meet international standards, from the pitch to other elements to reflect the strong identity of both teams and their Old Trafford and Anfield homes. The stadium will have a maximum seating capacity of 59,000 to welcome passionate fans from across the region.

Other major renovations will include additional temporary seating and VIP hospitality lounges on the running track to create a close viewing environment for the fans like in the Premier League.

In addition, the football pitch will be upgraded to meet the requirements of both clubs and come as close as possible to conditions in the Premier League.

The preparation will also include renovation of training facilities and other venues to provide the perfect conditions for preseason training for the players and the clubs’ managers.

Vinij said the event will give an opportunity for football fans in Thailand and from across Asia to witness the legendary rivalry outside the U.K. and enjoy being close up with their favorite players in Bangkok. The event is estimated to stimulate the local economy by up to 6 billion baht.

“United have phenomenal support from our fans in Thailand and we can’t wait to return to play for them again this summer,” said ManU legend Andy Cole, who appeared at the news conference. “Our last visit was in 2013, where we received a wonderful welcome and I am sure the same will happen again when we play in July.”

Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb said he remembers, as a player, the importance of preseason friendlies and this match was no different.

“And what a fantastic place here in Bangkok to kick off our preseason for 2022-23. We all know how passionate our fans are in Thailand and we’re all really excited to see Liverpool go head-to-head with our historic rivals Manchester United. This promises to be a fantastic footballing occasion,” he said.

Ticket prices start at 5,000 baht and run up to 25,000 baht a seat. They are on sale as Thai Ticket Major counters or online at ThaiTicketMajor.com. Sales are limited to four tickets a person.
