Japan’s Super GT racing series will return to Thailand in 2021 as the Japanese touring-car circuit regroups from a pandemic-shortened season.
The Chang International Circuit in Buri Ram again will host one of two international races Super GT is planning for next year sometime between June and August. The exact dates have not yet been fixed.
The other Super GT race outside Japan will take place during the same window in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit.
The coronavirus pandemic wiped both races off the 2020 calendar and also shortened its domestic schedule, with the final calendar featuring eight rounds across three circuits.
Next year the schedule will be back to normal, the race circuit said. The season will kick off at the Okayama circuit on April 10-11, with the second round at Fuji Speedway following a month later on May 3-4. The annual Suzuka round will take place on May 29-30.
No races will be staged in Japan over the summer to avoid conflict with the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics. The championship will return to Japan in September at Sugo, followed by a visit to Autopolis on Oct. 23-24.
Motegi will host the title-deciding round on November 6-7.
