Brake failure is being blamed for a cement truck crashing into a line of cars at a Chiang Mai intersection this morning, injuring one and damaging nine vehicles, including a police truck.
Worapong Gunfak, driver of the Saraburi-registered cement mixer, claimed he was traveling at less than 40 kilometers an hour when he approached the Rincome intersection on inbound Chiang Mai-Lampang Road at 10:40 a.m. today. Seeing the red light, he hit the brakes and nothing happened, he said.
The heavy truck smashed into a the Toyota Yaris, accordianing it between another vehicle. The mid-20s woman driving was severely injured and transported to a local hospital.
In all, nine vehicles were damaged, including a Chang Phuak police vehicles. It took nearly an hour to clear the chaos and get traffic moving again.
