A jealous Kalasin man Wednesday night stabbed his live-in girlfriend in the heart before strangling himself, orphaning their 2-year-old boy.
Kalasin provincial police found the bodies of 20-year-old Methawee Thipsut and boyfriend Thanyarat Bangsalee, 21, around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 9 parked in a cassava plantation in Thung Klong village of Thung Klong Subdistrict, Muang District.
Methawee was found in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s Ford pickup truck. His body was discovered strangled by a seatbelt strap hanging from the open driver’s-side door. Authorities said they had been dead about six hours.
Methawee’s aunt, Sangvian Sunan, 46, said the couple had lived together for the past two years and had a 2-year-old son together. They both worked in Bangkok, he as a delivery driver and her as a restaurant employee.
Sangvian said the relationship recently had hit the skids, with Thanyarat suspecting his girlfriend was having an affair. She denied it, but the arguments grew so fierce that she quit her job and moved back to the northeastern province on Sept. 1.
Thanyarat followed, arriving early Sept. 9 and the aunt assumed he was trying to reconcile. She said the two had seemed amicable when they took off together earlier Wednesday in his pickup. But the jealous lover had laid a deadly trap.
Police said Thanyarat stabbed his girlfriend three times in the heart in a jealous rage and then hung himself.
