The Office of the Attorney-General will not only prosecute a teacher who hit kindergarteners at a well-known school in Nonthaburi but possibly other instructors who failed to help the victims.
OAG spokesman Kosolwat Intujanyong said Saturday the teacher who inflicted corporal punishment on the tots violated Section 295 of the Criminal Code prohibiting inflicting injury on others’ body or mind, a crime punishable with a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine of up to 40,000 baht.
However, other teachers who appeared in video clips of the physical assault could be prosecuted for facilitating the crime if they proved to be aware of the act and fail to stop it, Kosolwat said.
Many parents of affected kindergarteners filed their complaint at the Chaiyapruek Police Station in Pak Kret District Friday.
Affected children became very scared to go to school. Surveillance-camera footage showed several students attacked by the female teacher identified as “Joom” in a classroom between 10 a.m. and noon on Sept. 23 and other teachers apparently tolerated the assault.
