Thai Customs Agennts Seized 42 Million Smuggled Philippine Cigarettes

Songkhla-based Customs agents seized a modified fishing boat smuggling ฿42 million in Philippine cigarettes into southern Thailand.

A customs patrol boat intercepted the Thai vessel about 54 nautical miles off the Pattani coast on Friday. Its name and colors had been fishing boat.

In the hold, officers found 1,050 containers containing 10.4 million Astro-brand cigarettes worth 42 million baht. Authorities arrested four crewmembers.

Customs officials said while the cigarettes are made by La Suerte Cigar and Cigarette Factory in the Philippines, the shipment originated in Vietnam.

The seized is the largest this year for the agency.
