Navy commander-in-chief Adm. Chartchai Srivorakhan took a multibillion-baht submarine budget request off the agenda of the House committee vetting the 2022 budget bill.
Chartchai informed the meeting of the special House committee scrutinizing the budget bill of his intention to remove the budget request for two submarines out of its agenda.
The online meeting was organized to scrutinize the budget of the Defense Ministry. Representatives of the organizations that sought the budget presented details from their offices.
When the budget scrutiny committee was about to consider the 22.5-billion-baht budget for the navy’s second and third submarines, Chartchai told the panel that he wanted to take the submarine topic off the agenda.
The committee then considered other parts of the Defense Ministry’s budget requests as planned on the agenda.
Many people and politicians earlier strongly criticized the submarine budget request as the general public were heavily affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
