Floodwaters Rise in Korat, Threatening Maharat Hospital

Flood waters rise in nakhon ratchasima korat river flooding

Korat’s Lam Takhong River continues to overflow and floodwaters still are rising as local officials try to protect Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.

Wednesday morning, the Lam Takhong overflowed into roads in the vicinity of Maharat hospital and Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital in Muang District. Water ran too deep for small vehicles and officials deployed military trucks to serve people.

Sandbags were placed to protect Maharat, although a road in front of the hospital already was flooded and patients scheduled for appointments were told to return next week.

Nakhon Ratchasima Gov. Wichian Chantharanothai said the Lam Takhong Dam would stop discharging water until the water situation in the river, that resulted from heavy rain, improved.

Floods in low-lying areas would be prolonged but elsewhere floodwater could subside in one day unless rains continue, he said.
