The navy isn’t Thailand’s only government entity patrolling coastal waters. The Immigration Bureau has sea legs as well.
A video released last week by Trat Immigration shows the day-in-the-life a patrol boat crew led by Pol. Lt. Gen. Sompong Chingduang. While navy patrols regularly stop illegal fishing boats, immigration patrols are looking for smugglers, human traffickers and drug-runners.
In the video, the Chuanchai’s boat stops a Cambodian vessel in the Gulf of Thailand off Khlong Yai District in Trat. Documents are checked and the boat is searched.
In this case, nothing illegal is found, but the boat and crew details are recorded and will be entered into an immigration database.
