A wet weekend is on tap for much of Thailand as a tropical depression forming off China is expected to bring heavy rain to the North, Central and East.
The Thai Meteorological Department warned Thursday that a low-pressure cell over the South China Sea was intensifying and moving northwest to the coast of southern China. That will spark heavy to very heavy rain in some places in the North, Northeast, Central, East and South of Thailand from today through Aug. 4.
People living in high-risk areas should be aware of severe conditions and stay tuned for weather updates, the department said.
The southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand also will strengthen, with Andaman and the upper gulf getting 2-3-meter-high waves and thundershowers. Ships have been warned to proceed with caution, while smaller boats have been advised to remain ashore.
